Hello, Love! If you’ve landed on this page I’m going to guess you’re pretty new to this whole Human Design world.
It’s got lots of new language that can be pretty confusing, so let’s talk through what these things mean in a simple, yet empowering way. If that sounds good to you then let’s dive in ☺️
First: Let's look at the numbers (aka your Profile)
3/6 Reflector
There are two important numbers that are usually shown in the text section of your Human Design chart next to the word Profile. In HD circles it's quite common to introduce yourself to others by telling them what these two numbers are as it helps people understand who you are and how you operate.
There are 12 possible Profiles and they're all made up of two different numbers between 1 and 6. Once you understand what they mean you'll realise it tells you a lot about the character you've been playing in this incarnation.
So, without further ado let me talk you through what the Profile below tells us about you.
The 3/6 Profile, also known as the "Martyr/Role Model" goes through three very distinct life stages and the sooner you know this, the better you can navigate each one.
From birth until your Saturn Return (around age 29) you are really in the thick of life. During this time you are designed to have an incredible amount of experiences. Some of them will be good, some of them will be challenging. All of them are there to teach you something valuable you can use to help others in the future.
In the second stage, from 29 (ish) until your Kiron Return (around age 50) you withdraw from the chaos of life a little bit. This is your time to reflect on all the experiences you’ve had, to heal, integrate the lessons and gain a wider perspective.
During this stage, it’s essential that you recognise that none of these were “mistakes” or “failures” (despite what others, or even your own mind, might have to say on the matter). Rather, you simply worked out a lot of things that don’t work on your way to working out what does work.
In the third and final stage, at age 50 (ish) it is time to step back into the world again and lead by example as the role model you were born to become. This is when you get to share with other people the many, many important lessons you learned while navigating the ‘school of hard knocks’.
Your personal experience from your early years combined with the reflection and integration during your 30s and 40s (if done well) will allow you to see how your life experiences apply to just about everyone else.
This is how your hardships become valuable lessons for everyone who looks up to you. In this final stage, you are the example of what’s possible when we courageously experience and process all that life brings us.
If you want to ensure that you become that wise, authentic role model that you were born to be then during your early adult years (if you’re reading this before age 29) try to make peace with the tumultuousness of this time period and know that the intensity of it will end.
If you’re in your 30s or 40s, prioritise healing any pain you might still have associated with so-called “mistakes” or “failures” so that you can see the valuable lessons those experiences brought you. Keep healing and integrating until they no longer sting, until you no longer feel shame, and you can really truly feel at peace with everything you’ve been through.
If you already feel good about “failing forward fast” and “learning by doing” regardless of the mess it might create, then there’s nothing for you to do but keep doing you!
And if your life as a 3/6 ever feels too hard, dive into my suggestions above because they’ll help you make sense of the mess and ultimately make you better at teaching, leading, guiding, mentoring and/or inspiring others when the time comes. Because, after all, that’s what all the mess is for 😉
Second: Let's look at the word (aka your Type)
3/6 Reflector
The second half of that short label we use for your Human Design is what we call Type. Type refers to how your aura (or energy field) relates to other people.
It can show you a huge amount about how to make any relationship work better and your Type is often the first thing people will ask you if they know anything about Human Design.
There are five Types in Human Design. (Although many teachers choose to split the entire world’s population into four Types instead of five, at this point in my Human Design journey, having heard endless arguments from both sides of the fence, I’ve come to the conclusion that neither option is perfect.
But since the concept of Type is still so darn helpful, I continue to teach it today. Additionally, I choose to teach five Types because I feel it is the most useful way to split us into broad groups.)
Each Type group is here to do something a bit (or, in your case, a lot!) different from the other Types. And that’s perfect because we can’t all do the same thing now, can we?
Those who are in the group known as Reflectors are rare creatures indeed. Just over 1% of the world’s population is like you. This can be a bit of a challenge if you live in a society that expects you to behave like everyone else.
You’re not like everyone else. You are, however, a mirror for everyone else. Your name is a reminder that you are reflecting people back to themselves. You reflect the good, the bad and the ugly. It’s an interesting, ever-changing experience for you.
You’re never the same from day to day. You behave differently around different people and in different environments you’ll do different things. This is normal for you. This is perfect for you. This is what you’re here for, to sample the breadth and depth of humanity.
Amazing, hey? You literally get to taste all of life in a way that none of the rest of us ever will.
Note: The way to stay healthy–physically, mentally and emotionally–is to ensure you regularly spend time with people who truly love you, to take as long as you need to make decisions and to commune with nature and all her glory as a normal part of your ongoing self-care.
Third: Let's talk about what's missing (ie your Inner Authority)
Decision-making as a Reflector
If you've been talking to anyone else of any other Human Design Type you will have noticed that they have a third part to their HD title. The middle part of their HD name refers to how they're designed to make decisions. Since all Reflectors are designed to make decisions the same way, including it in your name is unnecessary.
But since I've included a brief explanation for everyone else it only seems fair that I sneak it in for you too ;)
On your Human Design chart, it may say the words "Inner Authority" and "None". It depends where you got your chart from but these terms 100% apply to you as a Reflector.
Inner Authority is a specific piece of Human Design jargon that points people to where exactly in the body they need to pay attention to help them make correct decisions.
Not-so-helpfully, with a label like "None" it can sound like, as a Reflector, you have nowhere in your body to pay attention to in order to be guided to your best decisions. And it's sort of true, but given that I constantly remind people that they are the authority on their own life and to pay attention to their body wisdom, this HD wording (of "None") can leave newbies feeling a little bit lost or lacking something important.
You aren't lacking anything important. Your body is made up of all the same stuff as the rest of us, it's just that your process for making decisions is a little different to the rest of us. (Like everything about you, my love!)
Looking at your Human Design Strategy is actually more useful for you. That is, "Wait a Lunar Cycle". Before you make any decisions about anything important wait. Wait as long as you can - ideally a whole cycle of the moon. And if the decision feels ginormous, maybe wait two.
Yes, I know that can sound bonkers if you're hearing that for the first time ever. But you will truly make the best decisions if you can slooooooooow the hecccccccccccccck down!
3/6 Reflector 🗹
And that's it! In one short blog post, you've now had a basic introduction to your Profile, Inner Authority and Type, and I even snuck in some info about your Human Design Strategy 😉
