Hello, my Googling friend đ Is it safe to assume youâre trying to work out what these strange Human Design terms mean?
I get it. I was in your shoes about ten years ago when I first got my HD chart and wondered what it was all about. In this post, Iâm going to walk you through them one at a time.
Iâll use everyday language so that you can start to incorporate the wisdom of Human Design into your own life. After all, thatâs the entire point of this system - using it to make your life work better.
If that sounds good, then letâs do this!
First: Let's look at the numbers (aka your Profile)
5/1 Splenic Projector
The number on your Human Design chart that looks like a fraction is what we call your Profile. If you think of your life as a movie then your Profile is like the character that you play. It tells us some important things about your innate personality.
It shows us how you naturally interact with other people and with life. At least, it shows us one layer of info about these things as other parts of your Human Design chart have more layers that also affect your personality.
Your Profile is made up of two numbers between 1-6 with (strangely) only 12 possible Profiles globally. The Profile weâre looking at in this post is the one in the blog post title. If thatâs your Profile then let's look at that now!
As a 5/1 Profile, you have one part of you that is naturally attracting the attention of others and is here to be of service as an impactful visionary leader (thatâs your â5â). And you have one totally different part of you that is not at all interested in people but rather wants to dig deep, deep, deep into information (thatâs your â1â).
Thereâs no design fault here. This is exactly the combination you need to do what you came here to do. And they actually work beautifully together when you know how they function.
See your 1st Line part, known as the âInvestigatorâ is driven to research and understand a particular subject area until you know more about that subject than most people on the planet. This part of you is determined to feel strong and secure and confident.
You instinctively know youâll feel that way when youâve gathered enough information that you can create a solid foundation out of what youâve learned and keep building on it over your lifetime.
When you feel like you know enough then your 5th Line part will willingly share what youâve learned with anyone and everyone who needs to hear it.
In Traditional Human Design, this teaching part of you was called the âHereticâ because of your inbuilt rebellious nature. This part of you refuses to accept the status quo and wonât teach stuff that isnât genuinely helpful. Instead, your ideas can be heretical, innovative and visionary. Youâre designed to see things others cannot see because the 5th Line gets to draw on the wisdom of other lifetimes.
But there are some important practices you need in your toolkit as a 5th Line Heretic in order to serve the collective well without doing your own head in! In short:
1. Communicate clearly what you can and cannot offer,
2. Follow your HD Strategy & Inner Authority - itâs important that you say ânoâ when you need to and âyesâ when you want to,
3. Be sure to provide a practical solution to the problem youâve been called in to solve,
4. Leave when youâre done - donât hang around, and
5. Give yourself plenty of time alone to recuperate from the projections and expectations of others.
You can have a powerful impact on the lives of total strangers with this Profile. But like a movie star or a famous musician, youâll get attention from anyone and everyone from the moment you leave your home until you retreat inside your safe haven again. Thatâs part of the gig in this life. Learn how to show up and do what needs to be done and leave again as soon as itâs time.
Second: Let's look at the first term (aka your Inner Authority)
5/1 Splenic Projector
The term Inner Authority acknowledges that you have your own innate authority within you. That is, you are designed to be the expert on your own life. It tells us how youâre designed to make your best (that is, most correct and aligned) decisions in your life.
While there are a few factors that influence how each individual person is designed to make decisions, one of the most important ones is the info contained in your Inner Authority.
The one or two words right after the Profile numbers (as shown in this blog post title) is the Inner Authority. If this is yours then let me explain what that means, in a simple way, right now.
Splenic Inner Authority isnât that common but we have a lot of language to describe this decision-making process. This is a kind of spontaneous, intuitive knowing.
If this is your Inner Authority you literally have to ignore the mind, ignore people who tell you to âsleep on itâ and ignore any suggestion that you need to justify your decision with a logical reason. Thatâs not how you make your best decisions.
Your deep gut knowing, on the spot, in the very moment the opportunity arises thatâs when youâll know.
As long as youâre paying attention, that is.
Third: Let's look at the last term (aka your Type)
5/1 Splenic Projector
The last part of this series of words we use to describe you in Human Design is your Type. Broadly speaking there are five Types.
(Although some HD teachers prefer to teach four Types many of us have found that splitting the population into five broad groups is more helpful. If youâve seen this difference between teachers, or you do in the future, please know whether it's four or five, itâs not worth losing sleep over.
Type is an imperfect way of splitting 8 billion people into different groups. While the exact right way to split us into different segments might be imperfect it's still incredibly helpful, hence why most HD teachers on the planet teach about the concept of Type. So, let's get back to the blog post as we re-focus on whatâs truly helpful.)
Your Human Design Type refers to how your aura (or energy field, itâs the same thing) behaves or interacts with other people. Some people are here to start conversations, others are here to respond, and one group of people are here to do a bit of both. Some are here to take other people in deeply so they can understand them really well, while others are here to be a mirror for the people they meet.
No one Type is better than any other; they are all just a little or a lot different from the others and are all here to do different things in this life.
A Projector is here to do life entirely different to most people. If your Human Design chart says this is your Type then you naturally, without any effort see and feel and sense things that others miss.
Youâre here to guide other people with the things that you know. Itâs an incredibly deep and powerful gift but for you to know which people you are here to guide in this life you need a sign.
That sign will be some kind of invitation. The people youâre here to help with your insights and intuition and ideas will make it known to you that they really want your help. Not just anyoneâs help but yours specifically.
Note: For you to stay healthy (or become healthy again) youâll need to find a way to guide others that honours the immense value you bring to the table. Ideally, youâll only guide those who truly value you and your ideal work will be one where you are paid very well for far less effort than a ânormalâ job demands.

And that's it! In one short blog post, you've now had a basic introduction to your Profile, Inner Authority and Type, and I even snuck in some info about your Human Design Strategy đ
